As a plein air painter, Nancy paints on location. She looks for light and dark patterns while she thinks about what makes this place unique. Often she finds a portion of the scene that tells the bigger story. By parceling it down, she also can makes a more compelling composition which is always her first priority. A close second, is a strong sense of light. Her specialty is capturing the fleeting beauty California's landscapes - from sunlit lakes to misty meadows. Her work celebrates light, place and the quiet moments that define them. As a painter of the land, she is also aware that change is inevitable whether seasonal, caused by a warming climate, urban development or deterioration over time. We are always at a moment in time when we can tell the story of what “this” moment is! But beyond that: she loves being outside - painting has heightened her observation of the world around her. Her formal training in painting began with a B.A. in art, emphasis on oil painting at DePauw University and continues to this day as she learns from her painting partners and attends workshops to continue to grow.
