Gale Colpitts-Abbey has had a love affair with Prince Edward Island since moving to Charlottetown as a young child. Her father particularly loved the rolling farmland and warm, welcoming shorelines of PEI, and Gale accompanied him on endless exploratory drives along Island roads. She also credits the encouragement of art teachers in the Island school system, from Miss MacKay at West Kent Elementary through to Miss Lowe at Prince of Wales College; these women and others opened a world of creativity for their students. While Gale presently paints primarily in acrylic, she also works in watercolour, oil, and mixed media. Perhaps she is best described as a colourist for her palette of warm, lively hues in interpreting the Island that she loves. Many professional artists have influenced her work through workshops, including Susan Gibson Garvey, Jeannie Hancock, John Cook, Brian Atyeo, Dianna Shyne, Mike Svob, Arne Westerman, Sandi Komst, Lynda Kemp, Stephen Quiller, and Larry Horowitz. Gale studied studio painting at NSCAD and at Acadia University. Gale is delighted to be part of the stable of artists represented at Details Fine Art Gallery in Charlottetown.
