Ann Cole (1938–2023) was born in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Alexandria, Virginia in the mid-1970s, where she spent over two decades working for several members of Congress on Capitol Hill. In 1997, after taking early retirement, she followed a long-held desire to live in a more creative environment and made her home in Taos, New Mexico. Creativity was a thread throughout Ann Cole’s life, and in Taos it fully flourished. Influenced by the artistic legacy of her parents, she explored a wide range of media with both curiosity and joy. Her body of work includes acrylic paintings, pastel landscapes, polymer clay sculptures and beads, wooden dollhouses, and later, striking monochromatic dimensional pieces. Each medium became a new way of seeing and interpreting the world around her. Ann Cole work was exhibited and sold in a variety of local galleries and shops throughout Northern New Mexico, where she became known for her playful spirit, artistic versatility, and deep commitment to creative expression.
