Sébastien Boko is a Beninese contemporary artist born in 1984 in Zogbodomey, Benin. Drawing from his cultural heritage and the African Gélèdè culture, Boko's artistic practice explores themes of identity, power, and the human condition through semi-figurative and abstract sculptures. Incorporating symbolism and mixed media elements, Boko's work challenges viewers to confront life's complexities, inviting introspection and self-reflection. His artistic formation was influenced by his family of sculptors and collaborations with artists like Dominic ZinkPé, as well as international residencies. Boko's work has gained recognition globally, with exhibitions and symposiums in France, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, China, Japan, Tanzania, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Togo, and the Netherlands. Notable exhibitions include "Africa Now" at OpenArtExchange in the Netherlands. Through his art, Boko seeks to weave a dialogue between memory and matter, reflecting on the poetic dimension of ancestors and the transmission of intangible heritage. His sculptures become resonances, testifying to memories in perpetual transformation.
