Mary’s paintings feature animals, birds and landscapes in contemporary settings. Painting portraits for a living has given Mary an appreciation for composition and visual accuracy. Painting for pleasure has allowed her to experiment with paint application, expressive mark making and story telling. Interspersing transparent passages with opaque paint creates energetic foundations for the narrative of the paintings. Mary’s methods involve applying multiple layers of paint with brayers and palette knives in addition to brushes. Shapes and line work communicate movement. Composition and color are key. Images arrive and depart.
