Linda Scavio is an artist specializing in fibers and textiles to create unique yet familiar images. From the rugged coasts of New England, where she was raised, to the soft, lush marshlands of the Lowcountry, Linda has always been inspired by the vibrant colors and intricate textures of her natural surroundings. After becoming a Registered Nurse and serving in the Army Nurse Corps, Linda transitioned to teaching and spent over 26 years as a secondary school art teacher. She felt that going to work every day to help someone else learn to create something beautiful definitely fell into the “great job” category. Linda prefers non-verbal communication and chooses to express herself through images. The miracle of color and design in the natural world, the mystery of symbols that speak of emotion and thought, magical frogs and mice, and the wonderful memories of past experience are the source of ideas for her art. “Vibrant color and bright, joyful images are my contribution to a world that is too often dark and frightening.” Currently working with fibers and textiles, Linda believes that experimenting with new techniques and learning new ways to express ideas is a continuous process and it is a passion. She enjoys teaching and conducting workshops as a means of sharing and communicating her love for all things colorful and joyous.
