From Gramling, South Carolina, Rhett Thurman has been painting in Charleston for 53 years. She was one of 10 painters featured in "American Artists in Paris" in 2013, and her award winning paintings are included in private, museum and corporate collections.Thurman is the recipient of the 1995 Outstanding Alumna Award From Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she earned a degree in Studio Art. Her education includes further study in Europe and the United States, and, in turn she has taught workshops nationally and internationally.In bold palette, her work offers an intimate glimpse at her life experiences. Thurman says: "While I admire paintings that have a compelling edge, mine are strictly about the spirit of the moment, dazzling light and color my fleeting moment theme. Whether painting at home or abroad, a complicated sidewalk cafe or a simple slice of melon, my quest remains the same: pushing past what l've done before for a fresh look at light, color and shapes."
