Cristall Harper’s oil paintings are memorable, bold and beloved! She is most-known for her funanimal portraits and energetic florals. Her portraits are painted in the difficult oil style of wet-on-wet, or alla prima, and her florals are either alla prima or a build-up of acrylic, colored penciland then finally oils. Either way, her paintings are realistic from far away but abstract up close. It’s important to Harper that the surface feels alive. Her collectors love her mark-making anduse of color. One critic described her personal version of abstraction as “beautifully rooted in reality,” whileSouthwest Art wrote: “No matter the subject, the joy of painting for Harper is all about seeingshapes and colors on an abstract level and then interpreting them in her brush strokes.” Born in Texas and raised in Missouri, Harper received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting fromUtah’s Brigham Young University in 2002. She hustled for the next 16 years, experiencingrejections, failures, growth, small successes, and eventually became a professional artist. In2018 she had her first significant gallery solo show and it’s just getting better. Her work has been featured in American Art Collector, Southwest Art, and the Salt Lake Tribune.Harper’s art is represented by galleries nationwide and collected internationally. She is inspired by Gustav Klimt, Vincent Van Gogh, John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla. Harper paints from her studio in American Fork, Utah, where she lives with her husband, a fewbird-brained chickens, and her yellow lab, Cricket. Cricket is a loyal studio companion and themuse for many paintings!
