Patty McPhee will take you on a journey of discovery. As an artist for many years, Patty’s universe consists of carved stone, sculpted clay, and elements of metal which she uses to create unique jewelry. All of her creations are accented by very personal poetry. The evocative forms of her carved flowers, soaring landscapes in stone and metal, and deeply personal figurative pieces, all combine to express a rich inner life and deep connection to the earth. “I strive to touch a deep emotional chord with each artwork that I produce. Each piece is evocative of a moment in time and the emotions that are associated with it.” I find in stone and wood sculpture a way for me to explore the “the interdependent web of existence, the invisible threads which connect us, and I want to explore that in whatever way that I can. Stone and wood allow me to explore the dichotomy of creating softness, movement and emotions in something that is considered hard and unyielding, and I love that juxtaposition. For me, my art is an emotional study, an exploration, at its highest point. Ideas are all around me, yet I am not always available to them. That is an ongoing struggle for me. There are times when the ideas swirl around and through me, and other times when I am as empty as a deserted bird’s nest in Fall. Those are the times when I go back to my sketches and books and to nature. I have always found inspiration in seeing what others have done. We do not create in a vacuum. We are products of the world around us. Sculpture, stone and wood sculpture have been the anchor of my life. They hold me steady when nothing else can. Art is everywhere. Our job, as artists, is to bring it to life. There are those who would say that art is unnecessary and to them I would say that they are not looking—because art, that wondrous, nebulous, ubiquitous glue that holds the universe together, is in the very air that we breath. I am grateful to be some small part of that wonder.” Wander through Patty's world of organic forms. "I hope that they will attract your desire to touch as well as appeal to the eye. These unique and original pieces were created in representational as well as abstract forms to express what I love and to give form to the emotional lives of us all.” -- Patty McPhee
