A.D. Greer was an American artist best known for his luminous landscape paintings. Born on December 25, 1904 in Pond Creek, OK, the self-taught painter rendered landscapes and still lifes with a high level of realistic detail. His images of the American West—the Grand Canyon and Yosemite Falls in particular—brought him public attention and critical acclaim. Classic landscape painters such as Robert William Wood, Thomas Moran, Frederic Edwin Church, and Albert Bierstadt influenced Greer, and his style was romantic in its execution. “When I see anything beautiful, I make a conscious effort to remember it,” the artist had said of his subject matter. Greer died on February 9, 1998 in Austin, TX.
