Francesco La Rosa is a contemporary artist who uses unusual materials and tools to create his works. He specialises, in fact, in the technique of micro-carving, which he does by scratching, millimetre by millimetre, on large leather canvases with scalpels and knives. He was born in Catania, Sicily. From an early age, he nurtured his passions for art and multi-purpose knives. His great talent led him, in his teens, to enrol at the Art Institute in Catania. During his studies, he became passionate, as many do, about great artistic personalities from whom he took inspiration, including: Rembrandt, Leonardo Da Vinci, Canaletto, Caravaggio and Salvator Dali. At the same time, he continued to collect knives, completely unaware of what he would do with them in the future. He has worked as a photographer, tattoo artist, art restorer and, finally, as a designer for a brand of photo albums. The spark that ignited his inspiration and led him to create his current works came in the year 2013, during the creation of a leather engraving commissioned to him for work, where he accidentally realised that he could use his beloved knives to achieve an effect he had never seen before. From there, he began an in-depth study of this new technique to put it at the service of his art. He began exhibiting in churches, was invited to important events such as Fashion week and Linea Pelle, and collaborated with exclusive fashion brands and well-known brands. Published in various newspapers, such as Ansa, he continues to make a name for himself in America. Working on leather with this technique allows no margin for error because it is impossible to erase.
