Rebecca Last studied visual art, design and art history in Toronto, Italy and Vancouver; earning an Honors Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University and a Masters in Art History from University of Toronto. Since her first solo exhibition at the Ontario Association of Architects in 1995 Last has been a practicing and exhibiting artist and designer. Awarded a fellowship from The Virginia Center for the Arts in 2008, she has worked as Artist in Residence at Banff Center for the Arts and twice at Hambidge Arts Center, Georgia, USA. In 1988 Last was one of two artists sent by the Ministry of Culture to live on University campus as part of a work unit for 6 months exchanging ideas and lecturing at Nanjing N. University and guest lecturing at the Nanjing Arts College in Nanjing China. Afterwards she traveled in China and Japan before returning to Canada. These combined and overlapping experiences inform Last's continually developing work.Her work has been featured on CBC, and numerous publications including The Globe & Mail, Toronto Life, Conde Naste Travel, Style at Home, The Toronto Star, NOW magazine, Southern Living, US and Canadian House & Home and recently the cover of SLATE.
