John Boss has been creating art for as long as he can remember — drawing, painting, tattooing — always making, always questioning. For him, creativity has never been about fitting in or following trends. It’s about making something that feels honest, bold, and impossible to ignore. Originally from Canada, John now calls Costa Rica home. He was drawn here for the freedom, the rawness, the slower pace that somehow makes room for bigger ideas. “It’s like the 1970s with internet,” he says — and if you know, you know. His work is a collision of opposites — realism and surrealism, clean lines and wild color, structure and chaos. It’s shaped by a lifetime of creating for others (as a tattoo artist), but also by the ongoing challenge of creating just for himself. That tension is what gives his work its edge — a push and pull between control and instinct. John believes in taking the chance, following the idea, and letting the piece take the time it needs — no shortcuts, no rushing the good stuff. He’s here to share his work, meet like-minded misfits, and maybe trade a few wild stories along the way. Sol Gallery is glad to have him on board — after all, a little rebellion always keeps things interesting!
