Born and raised in Niedersachsen, Germany, Anja Whitemyer is a contemporary artist known for her bold, textured pop art that bridges the gap between historic iconography and modern culture. In October 2001, she moved to Los Angeles, California, where she began her creative journey as both a photographer and painter. From 2007 to 2013, Anja ran her own photography business, Anja Whitemyer Photography, specializing in event, family, and children’s portraiture. In 2014, she relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she became deeply involved in the local arts community.Between 2016 and 2017, Anja served as a curator for Jana’s RedRoom, a well-known Las Vegas art gallery. That same year, she opened her own gallery, AW Gallery, located in the Arts Factory in downtown Las Vegas. In 2019, the gallery expanded into a more open and inclusive showroom, featuring works by both local and international artists alongside her own. Anja’s artistic style blends digital art with physical textures, incorporating materials such as resin, glitter, crystals, and paint. Her digital collages—printed on fine art canvas—reimagine iconic figures and themes through the lens of modern fashion and pop culture. With a vibrant, playful aesthetic and strong use of branding and color, her work explores materialism, cultural values, and identity in today’s society. A recurring theme in Anja’s work is the celebration of influential women, often depicted through a contemporary, humorous twist on familiar images. Influenced by her transatlantic journey from Germany to the U.S., Anja is inspired by the cultural contrasts and social nuances she has observed along the way.She received a scholarship to the prestigious Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (University of Fine Arts, Hamburg) and began her creative career as a documentary photographer, capturing the lives of fellow artists across Europe.
