Justin Orvold has a primal need to create. A Seattle-based artist with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking, and an MFA in Digital Arts, Justin's early attraction to art was not merely a hobby, but a fundamental aspect of his existence—a way to leave a mark on the world. “A pivotal moment in my journey came through a transformative vision I experienced while painting. This vision was a turning point, removing lingering doubts and instilling blind faith in my creative process. A moment of clarity solidified my path and commitment to art. I primarily work with acrylics on stretched canvas regarding mediums and techniques. However, I have recently expanded my repertoire to include oil on panels, oversized watercolor paper, and small glazed oils on panels. I am exploring addition and subtraction strategies to redirect a linear progression into an organic cycle, allowing continued exploration at any point. My creative process is intuitive and spontaneous, from medium to surface. This process leads to the creation of visual artifact fields, where iconography emerges organically. Narratives develop, and forms often unify into larger shapes and fields of color, working towards a unified expression of intent. I have never tried to recreate a process and cannot copy my fast and spontaneous use of mediums. Styles and genres come in cycles. I am exploring various directions. My efforts will become homogeneous, and I will excel in acute, life-long exploration. " Justin’s work is part of both private and public collections, including the University of Washington and Harborview Medical. Barlow Gallery is pleased to feature his creative and thought-provoking work.
