JW Harrington is a treasured artist and educator in the Northwest. A Tacoma-based painter, social-science professor, and trained baritone, JW creates abstract works using oil or acrylic on canvas or hardwood panels. He studied painting and drawing with Sandy Bricel Miller in Seattle, and his work has been shown in multiple galleries in the region. The City of Tacoma has purchased two of his works for display through a juried competition. JW is Professor Emeritus of Urban Studies at the University of Washington, Tacoma. Born in South Carolina, educated at Harvard University and the University of Washington, JW has worked on both East and West coasts of the United States. For his abstract works, some employ strict, “rational” patterns of complementary colors, while others employ intuitive composition. He also paints portraits and animated landscapes motivated by the vibrant beauty of the Puget Sound region. Barlow Gallery is honored to feature JW Harrington in our galleries.
