Rose Cefalu lets the desert sun make her photographs for her. The cyanotype process she uses is as old as photography itself— light-sensitive chemistry, sunlight, time— and in her hands it produces images of Joshua Tree that feel less like documentation and more like memory. Blue, luminous, and slightly otherworldly. Exactly like the high desert at dusk. Rose Cefalu is a photographer and cyanotype artist whose work captures the dreamlike beauty of the high desert. Her “Blueprints” series is a love letter to Joshua Tree, where she uses the vintage cyanotype process to create sun-fused images and photograms of the landscape, flora, and found objects. Based in the desert, Rose also teaches her process through workshops and Airbnb Experiences. She’s the Photography Director at Emmy magazine and shares her creative world at @rosecefaluphoto and @joshuatreedesertrose.Represented by Illumine Gallery.
