Emily “EMYO” Ozier’s expressive style and bold strokes is rooted in her Spanish origins as the daughter of Cuban Americans. EMYO cites her inspiration stems from her grandfathers love of painting on a miniature scale while her grandmother’s hand-sewed dresses with heirloom stitches and lace inspired her to create. EMYO’s mother remembers her daughter’s imagination as all-encompassing, creating miniature three-dimensional houses and filling every school notebook with drawings, sketches and studies of everyday life found around her. Her drawing skills laid the foundation for her painting career that would come later in life. EMYO is a graduate of Auburn University and has studied in Italy with an Impressionist master, focusing on a painterly technique passed down from Impressionist painter John Singer Sargent. Mother of six, EMYO paints in her Tennessee studio alongside good books and french roast coffee. Her children’s book Marisol’s Dresses - both timely and timeless - is inspired by the author’s own family story and leaves young readers who face hardship with courage and creativity. Her second book, Light + Life, encompasses her art and poetry, giving viewers a portable gallery. “My life feels like an impressionist painting.” - EMYO
