Since early childhood, the act of visual creation has been the most powerful motivation in Susan Jarecky’s life. She sees her art as a sensory interpretation of the beauty she observes and feels in the world around her. Painting is the most honest way she knows to express her experience of being human. It brings her joy, and sharing that joy through her work is what makes her truly happy. As she reflects on her career in fine art, Susan has come to see that painting carries a greater purpose than creating pleasing images. She considers herself a visual historian and storyteller. Her paintings document places that may disappear without warning: barns lost to fire, forests cleared for development, landscapes that slowly shift with time. She paints intending to honor the past and present, capturing scenes that might otherwise be forgotten. Her style is alla prima impressionism. She enjoys experimenting with composition and brushwork, often leaving out details to invite the viewer's imagination into the scene. Her work carries a sense of mystery and is deeply rooted in both subject and process. Inspiration comes from her personal experiences. Wherever she goes, painting what she sees is how she communicates. Her hope is that others feel a sense of the passion, joy, wonder, and peace that she experiences while painting.
