James Swanson is originally from Beloit, Wisconsin. He began his college studies intending to become a forest ranger, but soon realized that his true talent lay in painting trees rather than identifying them. That discovery led him to transfer to the Columbus College of Art and Design, where he found his passion for illustration. After graduating, James worked as an art director at an advertising agency before moving into the world of illustration. Over the years, he created posters, advertisements, and book and magazine covers for major clients including Budweiser, ESPN, the US Tennis Open, McDonald's, Kraft, and Soap Box Derby. Eventually, James shifted his focus to fine art and is now represented by several galleries across the United States. He is a Signature Artist member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society. His work has been accepted multiple times into these organizations’ national juried exhibitions. He is also a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists.
