Trine Bumiller explores the relationship between memory and experience through paintings and installations that hover between environment and abstraction. She has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and studied in Rome with the European Honors Program. Her numerous solo exhibitions include the University of Wyoming Art Museum, the Las Cruces Museum of Art, the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Fort Collins Museum of Art. She has also exhibited her work at the University of Colorado Art Museum, Cincinnati Art Museum, and the DMZ Museum in Korea. In the past year she has had exhibitions in Colorado, Italy, The Netherlands, Uganda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, and Cambodia. Bumiller has been awarded grants and fellowships through the Colorado Council on the Arts, Rocky Mountain Women’s Institute, and the Colorado Federation of the Arts. Publications such as Art in America, artltd., ArtNews, the New Art Examiner, the Christian Science Monitor, the Denver Post, the Rocky Mountain News, and Westword have all reviewed her work. Artist residencies include Yaddo, Ucross, Denali National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Brush Creek Arts Foundation, and the Rocky Mountain Women’s Institute. Bumiller’s large-scale public art commissions can be found at the Colorado Convention Center, Four Seasons Denver, Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong, and the University of Colorado. Trine Bumiller was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to a Danish mother, and an American father who made documentary worldwide travel films. After RISD, she lived in New York City for a number of years, beginning her exhibition history and working for several prominent galleries and artists; she became a full time artist after moving to Colorado. She draws inspiration from the mountains and landscapes of the American West, as well as from her travels.
