I’m Brenda Sheik, an artist with a passion for weaving stories through stained glass, a craft I’ve honed since the late 1990s. My journey has taken me to workshops in Kansas, Colorado, and North Carolina, where I’ve deepened my skills in both foiled and leaded techniques. My studio is located in downtown Okeene Oklahoma, where I do both commissions and one-of-a-kind pieces. Most people would be surprised to learn that stained glass is as much about history, math and science as it is about art. I honor the history of the craft and in a world addicted to "busy", the meticulous attention to detail required by stained glass forces me to slow down. What a beautiful gift. Every piece of stained glass art I create both has a story and tells a story. I can look at a piece and remember the circumstances of its creation, like the large arched window I was working on when my mom passed away, or the road trips I took to find the perfect glass. Each piece also tells the story of the person or couple who commissioned it—like the sunflower a mother and her late daughter loved, or the mother who wanted to showcase her family’s faith and farming roots with a cross on a hillside and four wheat stalks, one for each of her sons. Every step matters—each cut, color, and line is a vital part of the story, crafted to endure and continue telling stories for generations. ❖Member of Stained Glass Guild of Oklahoma ❖People’s Choice Award - Graceful Arts Center Regional Biennial Juried Show 2020
