Kathy Coe (born 1963, Boonton, New Jersey) is an American painter celebrated for her vibrant portraits, still lifes, and figural works that capture both surface and soul. Trained at the DuCret School of the Arts (1981–84) and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Design (1985–90), she studied under prominent instructors including Furman Finck, Ron Sherr, Harvey Dinnerstein, and Mary Beth McKenzie. Inspired by direct observation and natural shifting light, Coe creates richly colored compositions, often working without a preconceived plan. By following the feeling she hopes to explore, she brings life and personality to her subjects through subtle color harmonies and an intuitive approach. One of her most meaningful projects was creating portraits and murals of Gilda Radner and her famous Saturday Night Live characters for Gilda’s Club in New York—a cancer wellness center supported by Gene Wilder. Her work is held in notable private and institutional collections, including those of Joan Rivers, Prince Charles, Gene Wilder, Princeton Club (NYC), Occidental College (Los Angeles), Kensington Palace (UK), and Gilda’s Club (NYC). Coe has received numerous honors, among them the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant, the Edward Mooney Traveling Scholarship, the National Academy’s Lorraine Grace Award and Helen M. Loggie Award, the James Sudan Bronze Medal, and the Salmagundi Silver Medal for drawing.
