Kathy Coe paints with an eye for both likeness and spirit. Her portraits, still lifes, and figural works don’t simply capture appearances—they reveal personality, presence, and the quiet truths of her subjects. Working from life and guided by natural shifting light, Coe builds her compositions intuitively. Rather than imposing a fixed plan, she follows feeling, allowing each painting to unfold into its own mood and voice. Trained at the DuCret School of the Arts and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Coe studied with masters including Furman Finck, Ron Sherr, Harvey Dinnerstein, and Mary Beth McKenzie. This foundation in rigorous observation is matched by her gift for color and atmosphere—subtle harmonies that give her paintings both intimacy and radiance. One of her most meaningful projects was creating portraits and murals of Gilda Radner and her beloved Saturday Night Live characters for Gilda’s Club in New York, a cancer wellness center supported by Gene Wilder. Her paintings now live in distinguished private and institutional collections worldwide, including those of Joan Rivers, Prince Charles, Gene Wilder, the Princeton Club (NYC), Occidental College (Los Angeles), Kensington Palace (UK), and Gilda’s Club (NYC). Throughout her career, Coe has received numerous honors, among them the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant, the Edward Mooney Traveling Scholarship, the National Academy’s Lorraine Grace Award and Helen M. Loggie Award, the James Sudan Bronze Medal, and the Salmagundi Silver Medal for drawing. For collectors, Kathy Coe’s paintings hold a timeless appeal. They invite you into an encounter—with a face, a gesture, a fleeting moment of light—that feels both deeply personal and universally human. These are works that don’t just decorate a space—they enrich it, offering beauty, presence, and quiet companionship for years to come.
