David Vincent Wheeler is an English painter born in Yorkshire in 1970. He has a Master of Arts in Fine Art Painting from the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus (1998) and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art/Illustration from Leeds Metropolitan University (1994). He also studied at Cleveland College of Art & Design and Wakefield College. Wheeler also worked as a painting tutor for the Open College of the Arts and Middlesbrough Art Gallery. David Wheeler's paintings have consistently explored his relationship and fascination with the urban environment. His work is rooted in the European Realist Tradition, reflecting his personal view through urban and natural environments, often incorporating sculptural forms. His earlier work explored metaphysical concerns related to time and memory within urban and suburban settings, and a period also focused upon Italian cityscapes. More recently, he has been developing a "truthful realism" that incorporates the passage of time and inner consciousness. His epic vistas of cities such as Florence and Rome are, on first sight, highly intricate backdrops for the viewer to explore. His rigorous approach and the quality of his draughtsmanship leaves viewers never lost, instead being taken for a walk alongside the artist and experiencing a sense of place with a feeling of depth in three dimensions which is both physically all-encompassing as well as visually intoxicating. He has exhibited widely in both solo and group shows in London and throughout the UK as well as China and Europe. His work is held in both corporate and private collections such as Mars Pension Trustees Ltd, Leeds, corporate collections in Langfang City, China, The Hepworth, Wakefield and the University of Hull Art Collection.
