A life-long painter, Liman has a degree in art history from Barnard College and studied at, among other places, RISD (the Rhode Island School of Design), Columbia University, the Arts Students League and the National Academy of Design, where she was on the Advisory Board. “My influencers include the paintings of Henri Matisse for pattern, color and ambiguous space; Richard Diebenkorn for shapes, composition and altered perspective; and Franz Kline for painterly action, movement and texture. I am challenged in my work to simultaneously depict depth and flatness with my still life arrangements, to use strong color and a lot of paint.”
