Jim Brandon – Sculptural Wood Artist “My work should call out to you from across the room, then charm you when you come over.” JB Jim Brandon is an experienced wood artist who specializes in lathe-turned wood, and concentrates onsourcing and utilizing the native local woods from Western North Carolina. He has developed a highlyunique and innovative process of presenting his turned pieces on bases that manipulate and accentuatethe natural curves and textures of the original wood. These bases can consist of highly figured andcomplimentary wood species, but can also include ceramics, metal, and even barbed-wire.Jim has been turning wood for several decades, but in the past several years focused his attention ondeveloping a more modern artistic voice to the traditional woodturning processes. His technical wood-crafting techniques are considered very strong, and his artistic voice has become recognizable andunique. His skills on the lathe are essentially self-taught over many years of practice.
