My work explores the complex interplay between chaos and order, using abstract painting and collage to navigate and express the nuanced terrain of thought, memory, and perception. At the heart of my studio practice lies a search for balance — between intuition and analysis, between the seen and the felt. Each composition is an unfolding process that begins with experimentation and spontaneous mark-making, then slowly refines through layering, editing, and deliberate decision-making. I am drawn to themes of identity, belonging, and the layered nature of personal and collective experience. Much of my work emerges from navigating the roles I inhabit in everyday life — mother, immigrant, artist, designer — and how those identities shift in different contexts. These personal narratives, along with broader emotional and social observations, become embedded in the visual language of my work. Through abstraction, I seek to transform the internal into form: bold colors and fluid gestures reflect emotional intensity, while intricate textures and structured forms hint at memory and constructed meaning. My journey as a Ukrainian immigrant significantly informs my work, not just in content but in emotional tone. The tension between holding on and letting go — of language, of place, of familiarity — echoes in the layering of materials and the moments of fragmentation or cohesion within the compositions. Cultural dislocation and resilience are often silent undercurrents in my pieces. Another significant influence is my background in interior design, which greatly shapes the way I construct my images. Like designing a space, my process involves organizing elements — color, shape, material, texture—into a visual environment that feels simultaneously surprising and harmonious. Both practices share an architectural logic: they’re concerned with spatial relationships, focal points, and how disparate pieces can come together to form a cohesive whole. My materials include painted Dura-Lar (polyester film), spray paint, acrylics, alcohol inks, markers, and collage, often sealed with resin on cradled wood panels. These tools allow for a wide range of expression — from transparent glazes to thickly built-up surfaces — and create a physical depth that mirrors the conceptual depth I’m pursuing. The works are often vibrant, layered, and filled with a push-and-pull between organic and geometric forms, chaos and control, movement and stillness. I see my audience as viewers who are curious, reflective, and open to abstraction—people who appreciate art that invites interpretation rather than prescribing meaning. I aim to create a visual space that encourages emotional and intellectual engagement, where viewers might see aspects of their own experiences mirrored back to them. Ultimately, my goal is not to offer answers but to create a dialogue — between material and meaning, artist and viewer, internal world and external reality. By weaving together personal experience, emotional intuition, and spatial design principles, I hope to offer works that feel immersive, intentional, and resonant, even if their meaning remains open-ended.
