Lewis E Fitzgerald was born in Fontana, California in 1956.He graduated with a degree in Industrial Design from California College of the Arts in San Francisco, CA.He was a Classical Dancer in Linz, Austria in his 20’s.His background in theater has provided extensive insight and understanding into animation of the human form in all it’s kinesthetic qualities."Revealing the female form in this piece of native cedar allowed not only the subject but the materials grain and natural history to come forth."After carving and finishing the piece, Lewis treats the wood surface with a natural mixture finish.Lewis describes a big part of his process as taking the time to find just the right piece of wood, one that he can see has his desired form somewhere within it.The seeking of the right piece of wood is followed by the seeking of the image within.And Lewis has done this beautifully.
