Born in Miles Platting, Manchester, Peter Stanaway is a celebrated figure in the contemporary Northern Art Scene. His evocative works have garnered significant recognition, finding homes in numerous private and public collections. Relocating to Springhead, Oldham, in 1976, the retired art teacher's artistic practice is deeply rooted in the local history and landscape of his surroundings. Stanaway masterfully weaves in his personal recollections of Greater Manchester’s rich industrial heritage, creating pieces that resonate with a strong sense of place and time. Reflecting on his artistic journey, Peter shares, ‘I get a great amount of pleasure when people enjoy my work. I‘ve never painted for fame or fortune and have made many good friends throughout my time as an artist.’ Stephenson's Gallery is delighted to showcase the compelling artistry of Peter Stanaway, an artist whose work offers a poignant dialogue between memory, landscape, and the enduring spirit of the North.
