Fred Fleisher is a Brooklyn-based artist, educator, and curator whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, video, and performance. His work critically explores the paradoxes of contemporary American culture, using satirical symbolism to examine consumerism, identity, collective memory, and the psychological mechanisms of late capitalism. By juxtaposing disparate cultural signifiers, Fleisher reveals how mass production, power structures, and ideological conditioning shape perception. Through hybrid forms, material alterations, and strategic appropriation, his practice evokes early encounters with toys and consumer goods, prompting reflection on the complex interplay between nostalgia, alienation, and agency in daily life. Born in Pennsylvania, Fleisher served in the U.S. Army and completed Ranger School, an experience that continues to shape his artistic practice. He holds a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a BS in Art Education from Penn State University, as well as an MFA in Studio Art from Queens College, City University of New York. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Visual Arts Department at SUNY Old Westbury. Fleisher has exhibited his work internationally for over two decades, with recent solo exhibitions presented by Brian Leo Projects (New York), Concepto Gallery (Hudson), Rockelmann & (Berlin). His work has regularly appeared in curated exhibitions in New York, as well as shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, Athens, Beijing, and Zurich. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Artforum, and ARTnews, and is included in both public and private collections.
