Born in 1949 in the Lancashire village of Waterhead, Oldham, Kevin Haynes' artistic journey is deeply rooted in his formative years. Waterhead at that time was a community defined by its bustling cotton mills, the heart of employment for countless local people. Upon leaving school, Kevin embarked on an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer, a profession that would underpin his career for over three decades as the proprietor of his own engineering business. Now semi-retired, Kevin has turned his creative focus to the canvas, vividly capturing his childhood memories of working people and their environments. A self-taught artist, Kevin's passion for art has been a lifelong companion. Despite having no formal art training, he has cultivated a keen eye and a deep appreciation for artistic expression, evidenced by his long-standing interest as a collector of Northern artists' work. Kevin's paintings are often described as possessing a distinctive naïve style, characterised by crisp lines and vibrant colours. This unique approach results in warm and engaging pictures that poignantly capture the atmosphere of the Northern textile industry and the lives of those who worked within it. Initially painting purely for personal enjoyment, Kevin soon discovered a receptive and enthusiastic audience for his evocative depictions. His artwork has since found its way into private collections across the globe, spanning the UK, Europe, USA, Thailand, China, Australia, and New Zealand. A testament to his artistic merit, Kevin was elected a member of the prestigious Manchester Academy of Fine Art (MAFA) in 2017 and is also a valued member of The Association Of British Naïve Artists (ABNA).
