Jessica Dupuis' unique sculptural assemblages makes use of both found objects and clay. Jessica combines clay slip, or the liquified clay, with discarded materials like hand-me-down furniture or cardboard to create architectural spaces defined in box structures. Some items of furniture were once used by Dupuis, often coming from her childhood. The results are altogether rhythmic, architectural, and delicate.Dupuis was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a recipient of the International Sculpture Center’s Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award and an Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artists Grant from the Durham Arts Council. She is an Assistant Professor of Art in Ceramics at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
