Working in oils as a contemporary realist, Lorena has received a number of national and international awards. She earned a BFA from Pratt Institute and attended classes at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design. One of her more recent artistic endeavors is entitled 'The Subjective Figure," featuring a series of pear paintings that highlight the feminine form. These paintings often prompt us to revel in the humor found in our perceptions of the figure, and simultaneously rejoice in the sensuous beauty of the fruit. Pugh captures the organic beauty of light on translucent form through the use of numerous layers in her artwork. The pear series is intended to represent a woman's experience of her physical self and celebrate organic beauty. Lorena feels the pear paintings address both the subjective and venerable nature of the female form. The shapes created at the meeting of dark background and light parchment are in themselves beautiful forms. These curvy, jagged shapes create somewhat of an abstraction within an otherwise impeccably detailed painting. Lorena has received numerous accolades for her artwork, including the Award of Merit from the Society of Illustration and Communication Arts Award of Excellence for several consecutive years.
