Frank Campos is the keeper of a living tradition—one carried through five generations of his Chorotega family. Born into the artistry of Guaitil, he works with natural clay, iguana sand, and earth oxides to create pottery that honors the designs of his ancestors while breathing fresh life into them with modern circular and geometric patterns. Each piece is formed entirely by hand, his touch shaping every curve, line, and surface until it transforms into something timeless. For Frank, pottery is more than craft—it’s heritage. His tools are as humble as they are ingenious: corn cobs, jícaro spoons, quartz, leather, and handmade blades, all used to shape, polish, and refine. From collecting pigments in nature to preparing oxides that yield deep blacks, elegant whites, and vibrant blues and greens, every stage of his process is rooted in patience, knowledge, and respect for the land. No two pieces are ever alike; each carries its own story, formed through days of labor and years of tradition. Beyond technique, Frank’s work is a reflection of life itself—sunsets on the beach, the rhythm of rivers and tides, the wisdom of his grandfather Don Gabriel (the founder of Guaitil’s pottery tradition), and the joy of passing on culture to the next generation, including his own young daughter. He dreams of sharing this legacy with the world so that each home that holds one of his pieces carries a part of Costa Rica’s soul within it. At Sol Gallery, we are proud to welcome Frank into our family. His pottery is more than art—it is history in motion, culture in form, and a living connection to Costa Rica’s roots.
