Shelton Cochran is a multidisciplinary artist whose work blends folk traditions with contemporary design sensibilities. Known for his richly textured relief woodcarvings, Shelton incorporates materials such as paper, plastic, metal, hair, and found objects—letting each piece determine its own medium. An Army brat, Shelton began drawing at age 12 while hospitalized at West Point and took up carving soon after. Though encouraged to pursue business, he studied art electives alongside his degree in Business and Management at the University of Maryland’s Munich campus. He later earned a B.A. in Business from Ladycliff College, where he discovered a passion for printmaking. Shelton refined his practice through further studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the Art Institute of Atlanta, where he earned a BFA in Graphic Design. He founded Shelton Cochran Designs, providing brand-focused design services while continuing to develop his artistic voice. Today, his work reflects a distinctive fusion of fine art, craft, and design—rooted in personal history and a deep commitment to visual storytelling.
