SQRA (pronounced seh-keh-rah) is the artistic identity of Cedric Sequerra, a Montreal-born multidisciplinary artist whose work captures the spirit of global collector culture. A lifelong creative with roots in design, filmmaking, and photography, SQRA is best known for his large-format photographic assemblages that turn private collections into monumental works of art. Through a process that is both documentary and visionary, he travels the world to meet collectors—individuals who have dedicated years to amassing rare and nostalgic items—and transforms their treasures into immersive “pop culture time capsules.” As a passionate collector himself, SQRA brings a deep understanding of the thrill of the hunt and the emotional gravity behind each item. His work serves as a tribute to the unseen efforts of these collectors—those whose shelves, boxes, garages, and basements hold rich, often overlooked cultural narratives. By photographing their archives in their raw, in-situ state, SQRA preserves the integrity of each collection while translating it into a visual experience that resonates far beyond its original context. Whether it’s vintage toys, iconic movie memorabilia, rare books, sports collectibles, or food ephemera, each piece SQRA creates tells a story—not just of objects, but of the people and passions behind them. His work reclaims private nostalgia for public appreciation, inviting viewers to reflect on memory, obsession, and the emotional power of things. Background and Early CareerBefore dedicating himself fully to his artistic practice, Cedric built a multifaceted career across media, design, and technology. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the John Molson School of Business in 2010, but his creative pursuits had already begun years earlier. In 2007, he made an early mark with a debut short film and music video that went viral, garnering over 6.5 million organic views on YouTube—part of a body of work that would eventually surpass 50 million views across various projects. Throughout his twenties, Cedric worked as a brand consultant, creative director, and videographer, collaborating with major brands and cultural figures including Ubisoft, Deadmau5, Major Lazer, Sushi Master Nobu Matsuhisa, and music industry executive Steve Rennie. He also contributed to the fashion world, directing campaigns and catalogues for brands like Kappa, Naked & Famous Denim, and renowned Canadian designer Denis Gagnon, and worked with notable personalities such as Coco Rocha, Jeremy Scott, and the late model Zombie Boy. After several years living between Los Angeles and Montreal, Cedric shifted his focus to tech entrepreneurship, launching community-focused mobile applications. Yet the call to return to hands-on creation remained strong—leading to the evolution of SQRA, where his lifelong passions for storytelling, collecting, and visual culture come together in a singular, resonant voice.
