"I grew up in a 150-year-old ramshackle farmhouse in rural South Carolina in a tight knit family. I deeply connected to nature as a child - the horses, cows, and puppies on our little plot of land in the country were my friends. Honestly, I never thought I would grow up to be an artist. An experience during my internship in college changed my trajectory; I was held up in a bank robbery. Even though that event was traumatic, I was forced to evaluate what energized me and subsequently migrated a great deal of scattered ambitions into being a visual artist. The work I make now is a celebration of that - an exercise in observation. I paint every single piece as if I were to hang it in my home. I'm most passionate about art that I want to live within my own home and I honestly believe that it makes life better. I am fascinated with my own emotional connections with certain imagery. Each of my works is a process of layering, intuition, and experimentation. My recent works are very process oriented, employing oil paint, washes, and metal leaf. They are meant to depict concepts of our relationships with the environment and the emotions these relationships elicit.” Joseph Bradley is a nationally award-winning artist, and has been seen in The New York Times, HGTV, Country Living, Traditional Home, and published in books by Chronicle and Penguin Books.
