Kelsey Rae Morris is a self-taught oil painter and illustrator based in Three Forks, Montana. Her work reflects a connection to the land, shaped by years spent in the wild, both in her remote Alaska cabin and the Montana prairie she calls home. Working primarily in graphite and oil, Kelsey combines detailed figures with expressive brushwork and a muted, evocative palette. She draws inspiration from the poetry of old photographs, often adjusting color and texture to capture a sense of nostalgia. Her paintings explore the intersection of realism and imagination, inviting the viewer into a world where place and memory feel inseparable. When she's not in the studio or welcoming visitors to her local gallery, you’ll likely find her in the garden, on a mountain trail, or deep in a history book. Alongside her husband Seth, their dog Wiley, and cat Boo, she spends part of each year living off-grid on Prince of Wales Island, fishing and unplugging in total wilderness. The rest of the year, she lives close to the rhythms of Montana: hunting, growing food, and painting life as she knows it.
