Terry Marie Ananny (née Broughton) was born in 1956 in Toronto and moved to Ottawa in 1975 to attend Carleton University. While living in Ottawa, she nurtured her growing interest in art through continuing education classes and participation in group exhibitions with the Ottawa Art Association.Regular visits to the National Gallery of Canada exposed her to the work of the Group of Seven, Marc-Aurèle Fortin, Clarence Gagnon, Emily Carr, and Henri Masson—artists whose vibrant styles deeply influenced her own colourful and expressive approach to painting. Her proximity to Quebec has also shaped her artistic themes and visual language; many of her works are titled in French, reflecting this connection.Ananny is a member of the Artist and Artisan Study Group, affiliated with the Ottawa Arts Council. Her paintings—distinguished by their bold palette and joyful energy—capture scenes of domestic life, townscapes, and Canadian landscapes in a style that continues to evolve.
