Alicia Jones is an artist and sculptor living and working in Santa Fe, NM. As a child, Alicia’s parents decided to load their children up in a horse-drawn wagon and head out across the West. This trip, and the bravery of her parents to undertake it, instilled in Alicia a willingness to take risks and to overcome challenges. It also meant that although her roots will always be in the Midwest, Alicia grew up in a very different landscape and culture: that of the Southwest. Following her older brothers around the mountains and rivers located right out of the backdoor of their Southern Colorado home, Alicia grew up in the seemingly endless natural world of the Rocky Mountains. She raised her family at the base of those same mountains and her children climbed the same hills and swam in the same rivers that she had as a child. Alicia immersed herself in the art during her young adulthood, teaching art during the day and pursuing her own projects in the evening and on weekends. Once her children were grown Alicia moved to Santa Fe and shifted her focus to working on her art full-time. She still plays in the mountains and rivers located right out of her back door, and just like her parents she continues to pursue her own dreams no matter how foolish or risky other people may think they are. Alicia has spent the majority of her life in the Southwest and you can see this in her choice of subject matter. In her most recent work she is exploring and depicting the ever changing nature of our environment. She draws on her experiences growing up on the plains and in the Rocky Mountains: the deserts, the high mountain passes and what it means to be a human walking in these ancient places. Alicia’s bronze sculptures can be found in public art spaces and collections throughout the Southwestern United States.
