Camille Davis grew up in the mountains of Wyoming, having painted natural ephemera for decades. Her recent works celebrate the desert and her connection to it. Their earthy tones, pops of vibrant color, and layered textures offer dynamic harmonies. As a nature-based artist, Davis is interested in the rhythm of the land- light and shadow, line and form, pattern and color. She attempts to capture the natural cadence, flow, and life of the desert through movement, as well as emotional tone. She currently resides in Southwestern New Mexico. Davis' painterly landscapes focus on native plants of the desert through an uninhibited lens. The expressive marks attempt to build a sense of time and place. Her practice embraces spontaneity and imperfection as oil, acrylic, and ink are applied to found fabrics and canvases. The paintings are hung from iron rods to allow a modest presence that echoes the organic/wild habitats. This tactile quality speaks to the landscapes not as static scenes, but as living, breathing spaces. Influenced by both natural surroundings as well internal states, Davis' paintings hover between the recognizable and the abstract. She is interested in how a place can hold both physical and emotional resonance. In this political state of uncertainty and alarming climate change, Davis' work is a quiet act of care. Each piece offers a way to slow down, and is a reminder to reconnect with and honor what we are part of. These works are an invitation to the viewer to pause, sense, and remember.
