Michael Aram is an acclaimed American-Armenian artist and designer, celebrated for his handcrafted metalwork and home décor collections that blend fine art with functional design. Born in 1963 in Providence, Rhode Island, and raised in New York, Aram grew up immersed in creativity and cultural heritage. He studied art history at Bates College and furthered his artistic training at the Art Students League of New York and in Florence, Italy, where he developed a deep appreciation for classical art and craftsmanship. A transformative moment in Aram’s career came during a trip to India in the late 1980s, where he discovered the richness of traditional metalworking techniques. Inspired by the artisans he encountered, he established his studio in India and launched his first collection in 1989. His work, known for its organic motifs and detailed hand craftsmanship, quickly gained recognition for marrying ancient techniques with contemporary design. Aram’s signature pieces often reflect natural elements such as leaves, branches, and flowers, evoking both elegance and symbolism. Today, Michael Aram’s brand encompasses home décor, furniture, lighting, and jewelry, all produced by skilled artisans in his Indian workshop. Aram built a global brand known for decorative objects, tableware, lighting, and jewelry rooted in organic motifs. Inspired by his Armenian cultural heritage and experiences in India, his work reflects a deep respect for the handmade process and natural forms. Aram splits his time between New York City and Florida, and remains actively engaged in Armenian community initiatives and creative philanthropy. Deeply connected to his Armenian roots, Aram is also involved in philanthropic and cultural initiatives, including the Aurora Humanitarian Prize. Through his art and advocacy, he continues to champion the value of handmade objects and the stories they tell.
