Debbie Moore is an Atlanta based artist who’s paintings pull the viewer in to her story with strong marks, texture, and color. She leaves a history of many layers on the canvas, just as her stories all have histories. She grew up on the coast with many fond memories of all things “low country.” While she is inspired by much of the coastal landscapes, her deepest inspiration comes from that which moves her spirit and breaks her heart…a mother’s love, social injustices, and the notion that hope is always still alive. Many of her figurative works are born from these stories. Debbie is an empath who channels her emotions through her heart and then transfers them to the canvas. Several artists that inspire her work are Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning, Pierre Bonnard, and Wassily Kandinsky, all of which have a strong presence on the canvas with mark-making and color. She agrees with Kandinsky’s quote, “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.” Debbie uses a large collection of mark-making tools but the palette knife is her preferred method of carving and “sculpting” a subject. Her work is uniquely diverse because her curiosity is constantly driving her to explore more avenues and approaches. Her style can be defined as an abstracted impressionism which ranges to complete abstraction. Her unique style has captured the art scene with representation in galleries across the country as well as in private collections and corporations. She has been juried into many shows from A.I.S. to M.A.D.S. International Show in Milan. Artist Statement:I am not interested in reproducing a scene or “matching” what I see. I would rather capture the essence of a subject the way I remembered it in my memory. It’s the singer, not the song, that makes a piece memorable. It is the journey of creating that most impresses me. “Art is like magic..making something from nothing and evoking emotion in others.”
