Lisa Herr is a Las Vegas-based mixed media artist whose one-of-a-kind creations blend high-relief sculpture, illustration, glazes, and hand embellishment into a singular art form she calls sculptured illustration. Her work celebrates the beauty, spirit, and flow of animals—particularly horses, which have captivated her since childhood. Lisa views animals as living masterpieces. From the powerful gaze of a lion to the delicate curl of a seahorse’s tail, she channels their essence into each piece she creates. Her process is deeply hands-on: starting with a series of anatomical sketches, she sculpts every work entirely by hand—without molds or casting—ensuring no two are ever alike. After sculpting, she applies a contemporary European glaze that allows for endless surface experimentation without kiln firing. The result is a richly layered, tactile surface ready for further exploration with found materials, such as antique jewelry, clockwork pieces, and ornate frames.“It’s the little details I love,” Lisa says. “Sometimes a tiny object will inspire an entirely new piece. I never quite know what direction it will take until I begin.” Lisa holds a BFA in Illustration from the University of the Arts and is a recipient of the Watercolor Society’s Award in Illustration. Her early career included roles as an in-house artist for the Franklin Mint—where her designs were international bestsellers—and as Art Director for Dezine Ltd., overseeing full product lines from concept to completion. Her original series, published by World Art Group, has appeared in national retailers including Pottery Barn, Pier One, and Kirklands. Lisa’s work has been featured in Decor Magazine, L’vegue, and The Equine Image, and is held in corporate collections such as Nissho Iwai’s headquarters in New York’s Rockefeller Center and Hammerhead International in Las Vegas, as well as numerous galleries and private collections. Every piece Lisa creates is both a tribute and a call—to recognize the innate artistry in the animal world and to deepen our connection to it.
