Lyndy Bush is a Native New Mexican oil painter living and working out of her studio in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She originates from Las Cruces in Southern New Mexico, and her work explores the connection she has with the landscapes of Southern New Mexico and the Colorado Front Range. Specifically, she is interested in documenting her lived experiences of beauty, strength, and resilience in this region and adding her history and views on beauty to the art world. Upon moving to Colorado after graduating from NMSU with degrees in anthropology and museum art conservation, she got to see the southwest from the outside and noticed gaps between the local culture and the art hung in galleries and museums. What she realized is that the local perspectives are systemically excluded from dominant art venues, and not participating only makes the issue worse. She argues that the inclusion of local perspectives of the southwest should be the priority, and has personally leaned into “Southwestern” art to add her experience to the genre.
