Born in 1975 in Rusape District, Zimbabwe, Itayi Mupumha is the eldest of eight siblings. At the age of 11, he relocated to Chitungwiza, where he completed his O-Level education in 1993. His journey into stone sculpting began in 1994, under the mentorship of his uncle, Richard Mupumha, who recognized his potential and guided him through a two-year apprenticeship. By 1996, Itayi had refined his skills and embarked on his own artistic path, establishing himself as a full-time sculptor. Currently, Itayi works at the Chitungwiza Arts Centre, alongside his brother, Onias Mupumha. His work has been showcased internationally, with collectors from Germany, Italy, Britain, the USA, Australia, and South Africa acquiring his sculptures.
