Donna Namnoum is a Connecticut-based ceramic artist whose work draws on the vessel tradition while pushing its expressive and sculptural possibilities. Grounded in wheel-thrown forms such as the covered jar, her practice explores abstraction through shape, surface, and glaze. Plant-inspired forms frequently recur in her work, interpreted through a personal lens that balances familiarity with ambiguity. Namnoum’s ceramics are distinguished by their unusual textures and rich, experimental surfaces. She embraces the unpredictability of the glaze firing process, allowing chance and material transformation to become central to the work. Her goal is for the viewer to sense that history of experimentation, where the echoes of natural forms meet the mysteries of the kiln. She holds an MFA from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford. She has exhibited her work throughout the Northeast, including at Wesleyan Potters, The Guilford Art Center, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. In addition to her studio practice, Namnoum is a dedicated educator who has taught ceramics for over 30 years and mentored generations of young artists. Her work has been featured in numerous shows and is held in private collections. She lives and works in West Hartford, CT.
