Andrea Bergen (b. Oakland, CA, 1989) currently lives and works in San Francisco and received her BFA in Painting and Drawing from the California College of the Arts in 2013. For over a decade she has been developing her collaging technique to create landscapes and figures from thousands of pieces of hand cut colored paper. Bergen's current work expresses her anxiety about the impact ofclimate change and humanity’s footprint on the environment and wildlife. Her style represents this convergence as her collages are a melding of traditional and contemporary art movements. The bold colors, vibrant graphics, and energetic style pull from street and graffiti art while the representational aspects and spatial dynamism reference Pop Art and Surrealism. Bergen has exhibited extensively around the Bay Area and has been included in exhibits at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco, the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Morris Graves Museum in Eureka.
