Bridget McEnerney is originally from Washington Township, NJ. She received my BFA in fine art sculpture from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2013, and has been living in New Orleans, LA, since 2017. Her work is always grounded in a strong emotional experience, oftentimes expressed through dreamlike oil paintings with an ambiguous narrative. These function as analogies to communicate primordial truths about moments, memories, relationships, and feelings attached to the psyche in the liminal space between our conscious and subconscious worlds. Understanding her unconscious narratives helps her to get closer in touch with her intuition and my creative voice. McEnerney's work is influenced by her study in psychology, dream interpretation, animation/television, fairytales and folklore, therapeutic modalities, and identity and persona.McEnerney hopes to create work that resonates on both personal and collective levels—inviting viewers into a symbolic space where emotion, myth, and imagination converge. She often uses cartoons, children's television, and kitsch toys/antiques/Americana as references for creating images. These things keep her grounded in vulnerability.Although her main focus has been oil painting, McEnerney's artistic foundation is in sculpture, and she does not limit herself to materials. Including mural work, clay, assemblage, music, and performance. As she continues developing her practice, she is committed to deepening her engagement with the process, expanding material vocabulary, and fostering connections between her work and diverse audiences. When we make work authentic to our experience, and step into intuition, McEnerney allows her subconscious to tell a story. What kind of symbols and metaphors can we adopt in a modern world to construct our individual journeys?
