Dr. Simon Degroot’s practice investigates the intersection of art, design, and architecture through painting and site-specific installations. Hard-edge forms in flat, even colours interact with pre-existing imagery and patterns, examining everyday surfaces within their historical and social contexts. Degroot was awarded his PhD from the Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University, in 2017, where he is now the Program Director of Visual Art. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions around Australia while maintaining a busy commissioning practice, plus an active and ongoing relationship with many regional galleries in Queensland. His work is held in public and private collections, including Artbank Australia, Caboolture Regional Art Gallery, Queensland, and Lyon House Museum, Melbourne.
